Frequently Asked Questions
How does DeskCloud differ from traditional cloud storage solutions?
DeskCloud stores your data on a local hard drive within your home network, providing more control and privacy compared to traditional cloud storage which stores data on remote servers.
Can I use DeskCloud with any external hard drive?
Yes, DeskCloud is compatible with most external hard drives that can be connected to your home network.
Is my data encrypted when stored on DeskCloud?
Yes, DeskCloud encrypts your data to ensure its security and privacy.
Can I access my files from multiple devices simultaneously?
Yes, DeskCloud allows simultaneous access to files from multiple devices connected to your home network.
What kind of devices are compatible with DeskCloud?
DeskCloud is only compatible with Windows and Android devices at the moment.
Is there a limit to the number of files or folders I can backup with DeskCloud?
DeskCloud supports backup of a large number of files and folders, with practical limitations based on available storage space.
What do I do if my device is no longer syncing?
This can occur, if the local data cache on the device was erased, this would cause the per device encryption key to also be erased. For security reasons we can’t just create a new one to avoid spoofing. To get your device syncing again, right click it on the server app and delete it. Then pair is again.
What is the license key tied to?
The license key is tied to the machine’s CPU and Motherboard IDs, so if you upgrade your hardware, the key will no longer be valid, if this is the case, just reach out to devaraber@gmail.com with the original license key, and it will be cleared from your old hardware id.
What if I want to sync my files while I am outside the home?
Right now this can be done by exposing the DeskCloud server to the public internet.
Will my files sync if DeskCloud on my phone is closed?
Yes, it will continue to sync via the android alarm manager. However note, that after a day or so, the android manager tends to kill APPs running in the background, so you may need to open the app once every few days to retrigger the sync process.
